Observatory on Alliances and Strategies in the Pan European Utility Market
The Observatory was founded in 2001 by Agici and was developed in subsequent years in cooperation with Accenture, the original purpose was to monitor the dynamics of the aggregation process of Italian utilities post-liberalization. After 2004, the program’s mission was extended to include Europe. Likewise, the Observatory’s focus expands the spectrum of its content, focusing not only on alliances and mergers, but also on the critical analysis and proposals of strategic issues most relevant to companies operating in the gas and power sectors.
Yearly results are presented and discussed at an annual conference that over the years has become a key event for the industry. The 2010/2011 consists of three studies:
- The National Report. Examines the growth policies of the top ten Italian utilities in power, water, waste management, and gas.
- The International Report. Examines the mergers and acquisitions and the most important strategic alliances of the 40 European leaders in the gas and electricity sectors.
- Working Paper. Detailed analysis of strategic issues of particular relevance in the energy sector. In 2010-2011, the study focuses on the management challenges of the great Italian and European utilities.
Objectives
Provide an update of strategic trends occurring in Italian and European utilities through the analysis of mergers and alliances and the in-depth study of the strategies of leading companies in the sector.
